Ouray Part 2

Our plan for day two in Ouray was a trip to the nearby hot springs facility. We ended up only getting in about an hour before some thunderstorms arrived and closed the park. We spent the rest of the day with some downtime and then ventured out for dinner that evening after the rains cleared.

Refried beans at Colorado Boy restaurant were Cecily’s favorite
Ice cream sandwiches at Yankee Girl were delicious

Day 1 in Ouray

We had a fantastic first day in Ouray consisting of some hiking on the perimeter trail, a delicious lunch at Tinberline Deli and chocolate snacks at Mouse’s. The gang was ready for some rest by around 4pm and cooking some food at home has been a welcome change from eating out since arriving in Colorado.

High altitude football to start the day
The perimeter trail was a family-friendly trail with ways to get into town along the way.
Cecily’s meal stop along the trail
Cascade Falls
She sleeps often on hikes just like Charlie used to do when he was younger
We didn’t partake in these hot sauces between morning and afternoon hikes
Box Canyon was our afternoon destination
Trail tunnel to wrap up the day

Onwards to Ouray

We were able to find a last minute rental in Ouray which was a recommendation from a number of folks before our trip. So we cut our Durango visit a day short so could meet the 3 night minimum in Ouray.

Used our ASTC membership for a complimentary visit to the Powerhouse Science Center in Durango. A small but action-packed museum.
Toddler area at the museum was Cecily’s favorite
Bones!
Staying in shape and generating some watts
The prior evening’s rain had the Animas River flowing stronger with some fly fisherman scoping it out
Fish hatchery had some trophy sized fish to feed
Caught a scenic glimpse of the train after having lunch at the Animas Brewing Company.
We got an extended viewing of the million dollar highway due to a road closure.
Gotta spread out in the car when stopped in traffic for an hour. Reminded me of similar road closures in the Florida Keys.
Overheard that someone went off the side which caused the road closure.
Fantastic Mountain Views from our balcony in Ouray
