Alternating days of sightseeing and relaxation has worked out well for the group, so we stuck with that plan into the weekend. Made the most of a half-day adventure to explore Montserrat on Saturday and then slowed it down on Sunday to explore new playgrounds in Sant Cugat. Finding it a fun challenge to schedule our day trips across the various trains. Maria had given us some insight on Friday about playground options, so we chose one to discover and it was fun but deserted in the mid-afternoon. Also confirmed her statement that Sundays are generally slow and most places are closed, even more so with over half of the stores closed for August vacation. We also discovered that places to eat on a Sunday afternoon between 4-7 are basically non-existent, but luckily stumbled across the Tic Tac burger joint which had good food and cold beer. Dining outdoors has been a real benefit with a 3-year old, so that running around is no problem.
Our time in Barcelona is quickly coming to an and, so researching housing options at our next destination has consumed some hours lately. Initially thought about Madrid or Sevilla, but the 90-100 degrees temps don’t seem enjoyable, so we’ll keep it near the coast. Reserved an Airbnb apartment for a week at our next destination, so off to Valencia on Tuesday! Only thing left is to figure out which train we’ll take from Barcelona, with considerations such as the 3-hour fast train or 5-hour slow train, $ or $$ and whether to start using our eurail pass.
